Being only about 80 miles off the coast of Morocco Gran Canaria enjoys a superb climate all year round.  There are surprisingly large differences in temperature around a relatively small island.

The terrain varies from the dunes of Maspolomas, the rugged west coast and the forests in the centre. Places of interest range from the prehistoric remains of the original inhabitants to those of the modern cave dwellers.

Las Palmas, the capital, is a cosmopolitan city with a huge variety of things to see and do. It has a large sea port, beaches, historic buildings and an enormous variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment.

It is obligatory to visit El Corte Ingles, the Spanish equivalent of Harrods.

The airport is situated south of Las Palmas, with good motorway links to the  city and to the resorts in the south.

The main resorts of Playa del Ingles, Maspalomas and Puerto Rico all have their individual characteristics.

Maspalomas is famous for its extensive dunes, which can be explored by camel.
